Courage for America Condemns Trump Appointment of January 6th Insurrectionist to National Security Transition Team

Pete Marocco, who was filmed inside the Capitol on January 6, 2021, has been appointed to lead hiring of national security personnel in the upcoming Trump administration.

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Courage for America responds to the recent news that Pete Marocco, who served in the first Trump administration, has been named by the President-elect to oversee national security personnel hiring as part of the presidential transition. Marocco and his wife were among the thousands of insurrectionists who illegally entered the Capitol building on January 6th, 2021, seeking to disrupt the peaceful certification of the 2020 election results.

“The appointment of insurrectionist Pete Marocco to oversee national security hiring, of all things, is further proof of Donald Trump and his supporters’ contempt for the rule of law,” said Courage for America spokesperson Danny Turkel. “As someone who directly engaged in political violence to overturn a free and fair election, Marocco is uniquely unqualified to be given any role in the presidential transition, let alone national security matters. As expected, Trump’s extremist agenda moves full steam ahead.”

As of yet, Marocco – nor his wife – has not faced any legal consequences for his participation in the insurrection, for which more than 1,500 other rioters have been charged. Morocco’s presence at the January 6th attack was confirmed by citizen activists employing facial recognition software. Marocco served in a number of agencies during the first Trump administration, including the Departments of State, Defense, and Commerce, while his wife, Merritt Marocco, was a Trump presidential appointee to the United States Agency for International Development.
