ICYMI: As U.S. Marks One Year Without Roe, Members of Congress, Elected Officials, Constituents Call Out Anti-Abortion Extremism in Congress
Press Calls Held Targeting Key Republican Congressmembers in AZ, NE, and WI, Laying Out What’s at Stake if Roe is Not Codified
WASHINGTON, D.C. — To mark the one year anniversary of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, Courage for America hosted a series of virtual press calls in Arizona, Wisconsin, and Nebraska calling out Members of Congress for their anti-abortion extremism and urging members to sign on to the discharge petition bringing the Women’s Health Protection Act of 2023 to a vote. Democratic Members of Congress, state elected officials, and constituents came together to hold Republican Members of Congress accountable for their dangerous and extreme stances on abortion–including those who are co-sponsoring a bill that would effectively ban abortion with no exception for rape, incest, or to save a woman’s life. The bill would also ban birth control pills, IUDs, emergency contraception, IVF, and some cancer treatments.
Speakers on the calls included Rep. Ruben Gallego (AZ-03), Rep. Greg Stanton, (AZ-04), Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona’s Kelley Dupps, and Honest Arizona’s Andrea Moreno in Arizona; Senators Machaela Cavanaugh and John Cavanaugh, and constituent Angela Montalvo in Nebraska in Nebraska; and Rep. Gwen Moore (WI-04), 9to5 Wisconsin’s Christina Thor, and Opportunity Wisconsin’s Meghan Roe in Wisconsin. Republican members in each respective states’ delegation were told to stop obstructing abortion rights and sign onto the discharge petition to allow the full House to vote on codifying Roe.
The press calls earned coverage across the country, including:

John and Machaela Cavanaugh of Omaha, along with other abortion rights supporters, called on GOP members of the House of Representatives on Friday to support efforts to codify Roe into law in Congress.
