MAGA Republicans Throw Tantrum, Manufacture Another Crisis to Hurt Veterans, Children, and Working Families

Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) – “There’s gonna be fights. There’s a lot more fights down the road.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Barely two weeks after President Biden delivered a deal to save the country from a catastrophic default, MAGA House Republicans are manufacturing another crisis to force an impossible choice: slash critical funding for essential benefits or shut down the government. Their partisan gamesmanship is back in the spotlight with the House Republican Conference arguing the compromise deal didn’t go far enough to cut federal programs and services, block student debt relief, cut veterans health care and benefits, add new work requirements to Medicaid, or make sufficient cuts to SNAP.

“Americans barely had time to breathe a sigh of relief following President Biden’s deal to end the default crisis before MAGA Republicans in the House tossed it aside and picked up an axe to continue trying to hack away our benefits” said José Morales, Jr., Senior Director of Courage for America. “Republicans should work to pass a spending package that actually meets the needs of those they were elected to represent, not enact further draconian cuts to our hard-earned benefits, critical programs, and support for families in need.”
