On One Year Anniversary, Veterans Still Remember MAGA Attempts to Deny Them Disability Benefits
On the Deadline for 2022 PACT Act Benefits, Veterans Vow to Hold MAGA Republicans Who Stood in the Way Accountable.
Washington, D.C. — As veterans across the country register for PACT Act benefits retroactive to August 10th, 2022, many remember that MAGA Republicans tried to stand in the way of their critical benefits. For decades, more than 70% of applications for disability benefits related to exposure to toxic burn pits were denied–but the PACT Act finally changed that. Disgracefully, MAGA Republicans, including Speaker McCarthy, did everything they could to prevent this historic bill from becoming law – including diminishing the challenges suffering veterans are facing by calling the expanded program a “budget gimmick” that would allow “reckless spending”.
“House Republicans have shown over and over again that they’re willing to strip anybody of lifesaving benefits in order to enact their draconian agenda. They proved that even veterans aren’t above their disgraceful political games,” said Naveed Shah, Spokesperson for Courage for America. “Time and again, these MAGA extremists have offered up tax cuts for the wealthy with one hand, while slashing hard-earned benefits to pay for them with the other. Now, when we are finally able to provide critical care for veterans, they want to obstruct and claim we can’t afford it? Ridiculous. It’s time for MAGA Republicans to stop using veterans as political pawns.”
